Chip Ganassi Racing Withdraws No. 40 From All Star Race

SceneDaily is reporting that Chip Ganassi Racing is withdrawing the No. 40 Dodge from the All Star race because Dario Franchitti is still healing from his accident during the Nationwide race at Talladega and the car doesn’t have sponsorship.

There are no plans to withdraw the entry for the Coca Cola 600, as the car will be sponsored by Wii Fit and Target. The team is also 38th in owner points, so they “cannot afford to miss the race,” according to SceneDaily.

Also of note from SceneDaily, Larry Gunselman, the driver who hit Franchitti, was released from MSRP Motorsports as a result of the accident. He said:

I think they felt I shouldn’t have been in that position. … And they’re justified in that. I’ll take the blame. But if I could have gotten it whoaed down quicker, I wouldn’t have been in the accident.
