Stewart Nearing 2009 Decision

SceneDaily is reporting that Tony Stewart is nearing a decision on what he’ll be doing in 2009 and beyond.

Stewart said:

I’m getting closer, that’s the good thing. I feel like I’m on the backside of the hill getting everything done. We’re a lot closer than we were.

In order to leave Joe Gibbs Racing, Stewart would have to be released, because he is under contract for next season.

I have a hard time believing Stewart would leave JGR a year early. I could see him leaving next year to pursue other alternatives and re-align with Chevy. But, for this year, I think he stays.

I think he realizes that he’s in competitive equipment this year, and if he leaves to go to Haas CNC, chances are he would end up in equipment that is sub par.

The only equipment worthy of Stewart on the market would be Richard Childress Racing, but that doesn’t offer ownership. So, look for Stewart to finish out his contract with JGR.
