Haas CNC Has Been Running Same Wing Mount Setup All Season, Crew Chief Says

ESPN is running a story in which Haas CNC crew chief Bootie Barker said that his team has been running the same wing mount steup all season. The team’s No. 66 and No. 70 primary cars were confiscated from Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Saturday.

While the cars passed inspections on Thursday, NASCAR director John Darby said:

All I know is the mounts were not in the same place as they were Thursday morning when they went through inspection.

Barker, however, contends that the person who alerted NASCAR to the alleged infraction had other motives.

He said:

Some people recognized we were doing better and better in points and they would do anything they can to keep us off. … I wish I could tell you some stuff. It would probably work against me until I know everything. The person I think that did it, and what we really did, it’s pretty … I’ve never done it. I’ll put it that way.

The teams are expected to receive a penatly similar to Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s team last season when they were docked 100 championship points, the crew chief was fined $100,000 and suspended for six races.

Bootie said:

I don’t know what the ruling will be, but it probably won’t be good.
