Hornaday Wins Sam’s Town 400

Ron Hornaday survived a green-white-checker finish to drive Kevin Harvick’s Inc. No. 33 Camping World Chevy to victory in the Sam’s Town 400 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Kyle Busch finished second, in the first of his three races this weekend.

Johnny Benson, Jack Sprague, and Todd Bodine rounded out the top 5.

Chad McCumbee, Matt Crafton, Bobby East, Mike Skinner, and Jon Wood, finished sixth through 10th.

Notables: Dennis Setzer (11th), Rick Crwaford (21st), David Starr (27th), Ted Musgrave (28th), and Stacy Compton (30th).

Because Busch didn’t qualify his truck, he had to start at the rear of the field. It took him 30 laps to move up to 16th, but lost most of those positions on his first pit stop due to extended adjustments made to the truck.

At a caution on lap 61, Busch made it up to 10th. One a restart with 11 to go, Busch started 4th and quickly passed Benson and Sprague, but he couldn’t make it passed Hornday for the lead.

Hornaday said:

You have no idea what was going through my mind. I’m going for a championship … [Busch] had nothing to lose at this race but to try to win all three races in three different starts. But that shows what kind of driver Kyle is. He raced me clean.
