Newman Agrees To Drive For Stewart Haas, Sources Say has learned that Ryan Newman had agreed in principle to drive for Stewart Haas Racing next season. But, the deal could take up to a month to finalize due to negotiations with sponsors, sources say.

The deal reunites Newman with his former crew chief, with whom he has had some success, Matt Borland, who is the competition director of Stewart Haas Racing. It will also make Newman and Tony Stewart teammates.

Gillett Evernham Motorsports, Petty Enterprises, Richard Childress Racing, and Joe Gibbs Racing all pursued Newman since he announced his intention to leave Penske Racing following the end of this season.

Talks with JGR feel through when the team wasn’t able to secure sponsorship for the fourth car, and it abandoned plans to start a fourth team.

UPS was rumored to be the sponsor of the No. 4 car that Newman will drive.

  1. Tim Zaegel says:

I found it interesting that ESPN was so bold with their title on this one, yet they were unable to get confirmation from Newman, Stewart, or anyone, really. Nonetheless, I’m willing to buy into this one.
