ESPN is reporting, again, that Martin Truex Jr. has finalized a deal to stay with Dale Earnhardt Inc., ending months of speculation and rumors about where the two-time Nationwide Series champion would end up next season.
First, it was reported that DEI picked up Truex’s option for 2009. Then, he was rumored to be going to Penske Racing’s No 12 vacated by Ryan Newman. Truex was also connected to Richard Childress Racing’s fourth car and a third car at Stewart Haas Racing.
After the story was originally leaked that Truex agreed to a deal with DEI, he denied the report, and then reportedly got into a shouting match with DEI President Max Siegel.
Finally, after all of that, Truex is said to have finalized a deal Wednesday to stay with DEI, as I predicted back in May.
