NASCAR says that Jeremy Mayfield failed the drug test he took on Monday, again testing positive for methamphetamine. Also, NASCAR included an affidavit from Mayfield’s stemother in which she contends that she witnessed him use methamphetamine for seven years.
Martin Truex Jr, crew chief Kevin Manion, and car owner Teresa Earnhardt have been fined because Truex’s car was found to be too high during post-race inspection at last weekend’s race. Truex was docked 25 driver’s points, while Earnhardt was docked 25 owner’s points. Manion was fined $25,000 and put on probation for the remainder [...]
Jayski is reporting via Sports Illustrated that Kevin Harvick has asked to be let out of his contract with Richard Childress Racing. Harvick has one year left on his deal, but the Shell/Pennzoil sponsorship ends this season. Rumor has it that Harvick would like to take Shell/Pennzoil over to Stewart Haas Racing next season, in a third car.
Dale Earnhardt Jr said that there’s a “10 percent chance” that he’d move JR Motorsports to Sprint Cup competition next year. He said that he’d need to drive the car to lure a sponsor, and he’s under contract with Rick Hendrick and Hendrick Motorsports for the next few years, at least.
