On the penultimate restart, Tony Stewart took the lead of the Helluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen from Kyle Busch. He then easily held off a late charge from Marcos Ambrose to earn his fifth Sprint Cup victory at Watkins Glen International.
Ambrose posted a career-best, runner-up finish.
Top 5: Stewart, Ambrose, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, and Greg Biffle.
Juan Montoya, Kurt Busch, Max Papis, Clint Bowyer, and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top 10.
Notables: Brian Vickers (11th), Jimmie Johnson (12th), Matt Kenseth (14th), Kasey Kahne (17th), Ryan Newman (21st), Mark Martin (23rd), Kevin Harvick (35th), Jeff Gordon (37th), Jeff Burton (38th), and Dale Earnhardt Jr (39th).
With less than 30 laps to go, Kasey Kahne and Sam Hornish Jr got together in turn 9, sending Hornish into the tire barrier. He ricocheted back into traffic and collided with Jeff Gordon and Jeff Burton. All drivers walked away from the incident, but all three suffered heavy damage ending their days.
On lap 41, Dale Earnhardt Jr lost his brakes in turn 10 and went flying through the gravel pit and into a tire barrier. Reed Sorenson was collected in the crash for simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Jr let a few cars pass because he felt something in the brakes. Then, in turn 10, the pedal went to the floor. He finished 39th.
Kevin Harvick was involved in an incident with David Stremme on lap 23. Stremme spun through the grass in the bus stop, and came back on track. He was then hit by Harvick and Jeff Gordon. Gordon was able to continue on, while Harvick suffered heavy damage and headed to the garage for repairs.
