NASCAR Penalizes Earnhardt Ganassi Racing
NASCAR issued penalties to Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and driver Martin Truex Jr after the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevy was found to be too low during a random post-race inspection.
The team was penalized for violating Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-I (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-12.8.1B (front of the car did not meet the required height specification; too low in post-race inspection).
Crew chief Kevin Manion was fined $50,000 and placed on probation until the end of the calendar year. Owner Teresa Earnhardt was penalized 50 owners’ points, while Martin Truex Jr was penalized 50 drivers’ points.
The penalty dropped Truex from 24th to 26th in the driver standings.
