Jamie McMurray To Drive EGR’s No. 1 In 2010

jamiemcmurrayEarnhardt Ganassi Racing announced that Jamie McMurray will drive the No. 1 Chevy in the Sprint Cup Series next year, replacing the departing Martin Truex Jr. Bass Pro Shops / Tracker Boats will also return to the team next year. There was speculation that Bass Pro Shops was leaving to sign with Stewart Haas Racing, and driver Ryan Newman.

McMurray said:

I am really excited about this opportunity with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, as I think Juan Pablo and Martin have shown this season [that] their equipment is as good as anyone’s in the garage. I am really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of their cars and once again competing for a NASCAR championship.

McMurray already has a relationship with owner Chip Ganassi, as he drove for Chip Ganassi Racing from 2002 – 2005. He won in only his second start in the Sprint Cup Series, driving in relief of an injured Sterling Marlin.

McMurray added:

It will also be fun to work with some of the people that I worked with when I was there a few years ago.

Ganassi said:

To be able to sign a veteran driver with the talent and experience of Jamie was important to us. We know Jamie and understand what makes him tick as a driver. We had a lot of success with Jamie in the early part of his career and are looking for more of the same. We also think he will be a tremendous compliment to Juan Pablo Montoya as well. The duo of McMurray and Montoya creates a very formidable team as we look to continue the momentum that has been established this year in our chase for the championship.

McMurray’s move to EGR, which has one of the better plate programs, could make for a strong combination at Daytona and Talladega. McMurray has won at both tracksĀ driving for Roush Fenway Racing, which isn’t known for its plate program.

Look for McMurray to be a factor at those two tracks next year.
