NASCAR has issued penalties to Robby Gordon Motorsports’ No. 7 and Prism Motorsports’ No. 55 as a result of rules violations at Darlington Raceway.
RGM crew chief Samuel Stanley and PM crew chief Zachary McGowan have each been fined $25,000 and placed on probation for the rest of the year for violating Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR required specifications.)
RGM was also found to have violated section 20-18A (unapproved additional door braces). Robby Gordon, driver and team owner, were penalized with the loss of 25 championship driver’s points and 25 championship owner’s points. The loss in points drops Gordon from 34th to 35th in owner’s points, 18 points ahead of 36th position.
In addition to Sections 12-1 and 12-4-J, PM was found to have violated Section 20-10.6B (unapproved final drive gear; incorrect tooth count.) PM driver Michael McDowell and owner Randy Humphrey have been penalized with 25 championship driver’s points and championship owner’s points, respectively. The penalty drops the No. 55 from 41st to 43rd.
Both penalties were found during opening day inspections.
