Brian Vickers said that he will not race for the remainder of the season, as he recovers from blood clots found in his veins before the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Raceway. It was originally reported that he would miss three months.
After returning to North Carolina last Saturday, he experienced chest pains and was again admitted to the hospital for treatment and monitoring. It was shortly after that the decision was made to have him sit out the remainder of the season.
RBR has requested a driver change for this weekend’s All Star race, and has been approved. Casey Mears, who filled in for Vickers last weekend, will pilot the no. 83 Red Bull Racing Toyota in the All Star race. It has not been decided whether Mears will fill in for the rest of the season, but RBR GM Jay Frye said he did not anticipate a driver change.
