I do think that sponsors forced Patrick into a ride for which she wasn&#039;t ready. But I also think that from a business perspective, sponsors need to see an investment on their marketing dollars. Sure, you gain a lot of exposure by winning. But, you also gain a lot of exposure if you have a highly marketable driver, regardless of how well they run, because they know that the media will cover the driver if they know the driver has a lot of fans (and will lead to more clicks for their stories).

Even if Patrick finishes 43rd, she&#039;s bound to be mentioned a dozen or so times, and her car, with her sponsor&#039;s decals, is bound to be shown a lot because of who she is. So, for them, it&#039;s better for her to run poorly in the Nationwide Series than to run well in ARCA.
