Earnhardt Ganassi Racing Considering Switching To Ford?
FoxSports.com is reporting that Earnhardt Ganassi Racing has been contacted by officials from Ford about the team possibly switching makes from Chevy to Ford. This has been dismissed by team co-owner Chip Ganassi.
Lee Spencer of FoxSports writes:
[EGR] stands to benefit through the support the company would receive from Ford both on a financial and technological basis. When it comes to the pecking order at Chevrolet, Earnhardt Ganassi Racing lags far behind Hendrick Motorsports, Richard Childress Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing, who shares an allegiance with Hendrick. At Ford, Ganassi would be second only to Jack Roush.
It seems unheard of that a team bearing the name Earnhardt would ever be associated with Ford. Dale Earnhardt was always a Chevy man. He owned a Chevy dealer, drove a Chevy at Richard Childress Racing, and started Dale Earnhardt Inc using Chevys.
But, when Chip Ganassi’s racing team merged with DEI to form EGR, he didn’t bring with him the same loyalty to Chevy that Earnhardt had. Ganassi fielded Dodges, and only changed because of the merger and a lack of technical support from Dodge. So, he may be willing to consider a change of makes.
I would think, however, that the team’s four wins with Chevy this season might give him pause. Why change makes when you’re doing so well with you current make? Unless, of course, he thinks he can do better with Ford.
