Hendrick Motorsports Announces Sponsor For No. 24

Hendrick Motorsports has signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with AARP and the AARP Foundation to sponsor the team’s No. 24 Sprint Cup Chevy. The Drive To End Hunger will be the majority sponsor for 22 races in each of the next three years.

The Drive To End Hunger Chevy, which has yet to be revealed, will appear in the next three Daytona 500s.

Gordon said:

This is a truly unique opportunity to help people, and it’s a completely new, cause-driven approach to sponsorship. Every single day, millions of older Americans are forced to make a choice between food, medicine and utilities. It’s going to be a team effort, and it’s not going to be easy, but we can solve this problem.

AARP Foundation President Jo Ann Jenkins said:

NASCAR fans are among the most charitable, community-minded sports fans in the country, and they have a track record of commitment. With the help of Jeff and the Hendrick team, we will make the most of this unprecedented opportunity to end the struggle that so many older Americans have with hunger.

The team was rumored to have been in talks with WalMart, but nothing ever came of those discussions.

Update: Hendrick Motorsports announced that DuPont has re-signed as a primary sponsor for the No. 24 Sprint Cup Chevy and driver Jeff Gordon. Under the terms of the three-year deal, DuPont will appear as primary sponsor for the No. 24 in 14 races annually through 2013.

  1. Love it when sponsorships tie into a philanthropic cause – good for both Hendrick and AARP.
