Greg Biffle and 3M are reportedly close to reaching an extension with Roush Fenway Racing, according to ESPN.com. Biffle, who is entering the final year of his contract, said that negotiations have reached the point where a deal could be reached in the first quarter of the season, or as early as the third Sprint Cup race.
While details of the deal were not released, it is expected to be in the two-to-three-year range. The contract is also expected to be significantly less than the deal he signed in 2008, due to economic conditions.
Biffle also commented that the 3M portion of the deal will be surprising, which David Newton, of ESPN, said indicated that it could be for longer than three years.
Carl Edwards, Biffle’s teammate, is also entering the final year of his contract. But, he seems more willing to consider other teams. He said:
What I want to do is what is going to give me the best chance to win the most championships.
