Bayne Hospitalized; Will Miss Richmond Nationwide Race

Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne was hospitalized Thursday for fatigue and nausea, thought to be related to an insect bite he received earlier this month, according to About three weeks ago, Bayne was treated and released for an insect bite on his elbow.

Asa result, Bayne will be forced to give up his seat for the Nationwide Series event at Richmond International Raceway this Friday. One of his Roush Fenway Racing teammates will replace him.

This is an unfortunate blow to his championship hopes. Bayne currently sits fifth in points,  just four points behind leader Justin Allgaier.

Bayne is not scheduled to run the Sprint Cup Series race this weekend due to Woods Brothers Racing’s limited Cup schedule.

RFR president Steve Newmark said:

As of now, our plans are to use a substitute driver from the Roush Fenway family of drivers in place of Trevor at Friday night’s race. Obviously Trevor wanted to be in Richmond and he’s upset about not being able to compete. However, his health is our top priority and we insisted that he have these tests to get to the bottom of his symptoms.

Update: Roush Fenway Racing posted on its Facebook page that Chris Buescher will replace Trevor Bayne in RFR’s No. 16 car at Richmond.
