NASCAR, Teams To Discuss Gen 6 Plate Package

NASCAR plans to meet with Sprint Cup Series teams about the Generation 6 restrictor plate package and whether or not that package should change before the next restrictor plate race, according to ESPN .
NASCAR’s vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said:
We’ll do one-on-ones on that and see what they think. A lot of people have opinions. The racing was as old school as it gets. If there’s some things we’re encouraged to look at, we will. Once you get a race under your belt, even as a competitor, you would work on things once you got a race of that length under your belt.
The main issue seems to be the inability for the inside line to match the speed of the outside lane, which resulted in a lot of single-file racing. Many fans complained about the single-file racing, calling it boring.
Some of the stuff we were told is they could run 10 to 20 laps on the bottom, and then it went away on them. It was in short spurts. We know that’s something they need.
Drivers also expressed frustration that the bottom lane wouldn’t work and no other drivers would go to the bottom with them.
NASCAR has not determined whether an additional test session will be added before the May 5th race at Talladega Superspeedway.
