NASCAR announced that the All-Star Pit Crew Challenge has been cancelled this year due to a lack of sponsorship, according to the Sporting News. The event, which has been held every year since 2005, featured pit crews competing against each other to perform a tire-change, then push the cars across a finish line. The results were then used to determine the pit stall selection order.
NASCAR will instead use the qualifying results to determine pit stall selection for the Sprint All Star Race, just as it does for all regular-season events.
Craftsman originally sponsored the event, then Sprint took over. Sprint reallocated its sponsorship money to the Sprint Unlimited race at Daytona International Speedway at the beginning of this season. NASCAR was seeking a sponsor for the event, but none materialized.
