Remember This April Fool’s Day Prank?

Since it is April Fool’s day, does anyone remember when Car and Driver posted an April Fool’s Day joke back in 2009 that President Barack Obama ordered Dodge and Chevy out of NASCAR?

What was interesting to me was that a lot of people took the joke seriously. So seriously in fact that Ann Coulter commented on it, and Denny Darnell, of Dodge’s motorsports program, called the article “irreponsible.”

C and D actually had to pull the story and apologize.

Originally, the article wasn’t marked an April Fool’s joke. It was later marked after C and D learned that people were taking it seriously.

Most people probably don’t remember this, at least without being specifically asked about it. But, it should serve as a reminder to always be aware of articles with an April 1 dateline.
