Edwards Reportedly Turns Down Childress

Carl Edwards is expected to become a free agent at the end of the Sprint Cup Series season, when his contract expires with Roush Fenway Racing.

Edwards has been linked to Joe Gibbs Racing and Penske Racing, though the latter said that the team had no interest in him.

Another team that is out of the Edwards sweepstakes is Richard Childress Racing. FoxSports 1’s Bob Dillner reported that Edwards has spoken with RCR about driving one of their Cup entries, and his answer was “No.”

RCR currently fields three cars, the No. 3 of Austin Dillon, the No. 27 of Paul Menard, and the No. 31 of Ryan Newman. They also field a part time car for Brian Scott, through a partnership with Circle Sport Racing.

Edwards hasn’t said much about his 2015 plans, but with Penske Racing potentially out, and now RCR out, that only leaves JGR, Chip Ganassi Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, and Michael Waltrip Racing as the only full time, competitive teams with the space to accommodate him.
