JD Gibbs: M&Ms Staying With Busch

Rumor has it that Carl Edwards is leaving Roush Fenway Racing for Joe Gibbs Racing after his contract expires at the end of this Sprint Cup Series season.

M&Ms/Mars Inc. was rumored to be moving from Kyle Busch’s No. 18 JGR Toyota to a fourth JGR Toyota with Edwards driving. Monster, which has a long relationship with Busch and has been sponsoring him in the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series, would have stepped up with Busch to the Cup Series, replacing M&Ms.

But, that doesn’t appear to be the case, according to JGR President JD Gibbs. Gibbs said that M&Ms will remain with Busch next season and beyond.

He also said that it JGR would not be in a position to announce whether or not they will field a fourth car until September.

This is interesting because there is a clause in Edwards’s contract that prohibits him from discussing his plans until September. This could be an interesting coincidence, or JGR might have tipped its hand a little and indicated that they are at the very least pursing Edwards.
