Report: Penske To Form V8 Supercar Team

According to Australia’s Courier-Mail, Dick Johnson, owner of the V8 Supercar team Dick Johnson Racing, is rumored to be close to a deal with NASCAR and IndyCar owner Roger Penske to form a racing team in the Australian series.

The rumored deal could be finalized soon, and is said to include the signing of Richard Petty Motorsports driver Marcos Ambrose to return to Australia to drive a V8 Supercar.

Ambrose drove the Ford Falcon of Stone Brothers Racing in the V8 Supercar series from 2001 to 2005. He drove that car for five seasons, winning two championships, finishing third twice and finishing eighth once.

Ambrose is said to be considering returning to Australia after attempting to make it in NASCAR’s top series. Ambrose has earned two victories on road courses driving for RPM. He also won 4 Nationwide Series races.

Johnson did not confirm that he was working on a deal with Penske.
