HMS Announces New Crew Chief For Dale Jr

Hendrick Motorsports announced that Greg Ives will re-join HMS as crew chief for NASCAR’s most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr in 2015.

Ives was race engineer for Jimmie Johnson’s run of five consecutive Sprint Cup Series championships.

Rick Hendrick said:

Greg was our number-one choice. This is a talented guy who already has a terrific rapport with Dale Jr. and is a fit with the organization. He and Chad [Knaus] had a lot of success together, and all of our crew chiefs think the world of him and what he’s accomplished. Greg’s proven that he can win races, and he has all the tools to do big things.

Ives currently serves as crew chief for JR Motorsports’ No. 9 car, with driver Chase Elliott. Ives has helped Elliott win three Nationwide Series races this season. He also served as crew chief for Regan Smith at JRM and led the No. 88 team to two races in 2013.

With Johnson, Ives helped the No. 48 team win 42 wins, 113 top-five finishes and 21 pole positions in the Sprint Cup Series.

Ives replaces Steve Letarte, who is leaving the No. 88 team to move to the broadcast booth with ABC Sports. He wants to spend more time with his family, and moving away from the grueling Cup schedule will help.
