3M To Sponsor Gordon In 2015

Hendrick Motorsports has announced that 3M will join HMS beginning in 2015 as primary sponsor of the No. 24 Chevy and driver Jeff Gordon.

3M will serve as primary sponsor on the No. 24 car for 11 Sprint Cup races in 2015, and as an associate sponsor for the remaining events.

The sponsorship agreement runs through the 2017 Cup season.

3M has been a longtime sponsor of Greg Biffle and the No. 16 Roush Fenway Racing team.

Earlier this year, Biffle, who was in contract discussions with RFR at the time, said:

There are a lot of moving parts to a contract and a lot of new people at 3M but I know the folks are going up there next week to visit some more. I have a feeling it is getting closer. I know there has been a lot of activity. The program works really well for them and we have the America Red Cross on the car this weekend so it is a good program for 3M and I think they are happy and it looks like we are closing in on an announcement. Hopefully here soon we will have something.

It appears that they couldn’t reach an agreement.

Update: Roush Fenway Racing President Steve Newmark issued a statement via the team’s Facebook page:

We’re thankful for the 10-year relationship we’ve enjoyed with 3M that included some of Roush Fenway’s most memorable victories. We have some exciting ’15 partnership announcements for the No. 16 coming up in the next few weeks, and look forward to sharing those soon. Right now our focus remains on competing for wins and championships with all of our Roush Fenway Racing teams in ’14.
