Report: Edwards To JGR

Joe Gibbs Racing is expected to announce that Carl Edwards will join the team in a fourth Toyota in the Sprint Cup Series in 2015, according to Motorsport.com.

There has been no word on who will sponsor Edwards in the fourth car.

Edwards has been rumored to be joining JGR ever since he wouldn’t say that he was renewing with Roush Fenway Racing. JGR courted him last time he was contemplating free agency, but he chose to stay with RFR.

This time around, Richard Childress Racing showed interest, but Edwards turned them down. Penske Racing said that they were not interested in Edwards.

Originally, he was rumored to be moving to a fourth JGR Toyota with M&M’s as the sponsor, but Mars recently renewed with JGR to stay on the No. 18.

The rumors gained steam when RFR released its 2015 driver lineup without Edwards and JGR said it was attempting to add a fourth team.

The move reunites Edwards and former RFR teammate Matt Kenseth at JGR, who joined JGR in 2013.
