Rumor: Elliott To Run Some Cup Races
Rumor has it that Chase Elliott will drive a No. 25 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy in select Sprint Cup Series races in 2015.
There are several different rumors floating around, but the most recent one suggests that Elliott will make his debut in the Folds of Honor Quiktrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March.
Elliott is from Georgia, making Atlanta his “home track,” so this rumor seems logical.
At this time, no official announcement has been made, so this is just a rumor.
Adding to the credibility of the rumor is a blurry photo of the No. 25 HMS Chevy that Elliott will supposedly drive on Jayski.com.
This rumor comes on the heels of the news that 2015 will be Gordon’s last full time Cup season.
It makes sense that Gordon would scale back his Cup schedule to allow Elliott to move to the Cup series full time in 2016 under the HMS banner.
It wasn’t too long ago that HMS had to let go of rising star Brad Keselowski because the team didn’t have a full time Cup ride for him. Teams are only allowed to field four full time Cup entries.
Keselowski subsequently left HMS to join Penske Racing and has since won 15 races and a championship. Surely, team owner Rick Hendrick doesn’t want to let that happen again.
