Brian Scott is set to drive RAB Racing’s No. 09 Nationwide Series Ford in the Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway, according to SPEEDtv.com.

Scott, who is leading the Rookie of the Year standings, began the season with Braun Racing. He was released earlier this week, although it was reporting that split was mutual. Braun has recently been acquired by Turner Motorsports.

There were talks of him joining Joe Gibbs Racing, and it is unclear at this time whether those talks are continuing. Also, it’s unlcear whether Scott will drive the No. 09 beyond the race at Kansas.

Camping World Truck Series team Turner Motorsports obtained assets from Braun Racing, and will take over operation of the organization effective immediately.

Camping World Truck Series team Turner Motorsports obtained assets from Braun Racing, and will take over operation of the organization effective immediately.

Braun racing fields three entries in the Nationwide Series, the No. 10, No. 11, No. 32, and No. 28 with drivers Kasey Kahne, Jason Leffler, Tayler Malsam, David Reutimann, Brian Scott, Reed Sorenson, Brian Vickers, and Jacques Villeneuve. They will join Turner’s existing stable of CWTS drivers,Ricky Carmichael and James Buescher.

The team plans to field three CWTS teams and three N’Wide teams next season. Driver lineups will be announced in October, but the team plans to continue to field trucks for James Buescher and Ricky Carmichael. They will operate out of Braun Racing’s race shop. Todd Braun, and other members from Braun Racing will be a part of Turner Motorsports’ team going forward.

Turner Motorsports owner Steve Turner said:

We are really excited about expanding Turner Motorsports into to the Nationwide Series. We have been looking at ways to grow our team structure to provide additional sponsorship opportunities for our partners and to create new opportunities for our drivers. It became apparent that we could accomplish those goals by making a deal with Todd Braun and purchasing select assets of Braun Racing. … We are dedicated to making our Nationwide teams ultra-competitive. With the introduction of the Nationwide Series’ new car, we know that success will require a significant upgrade in infrastructure, technology and financial commitment. Going head-to-head in this series with teams like Joe Gibbs Racing and Penske Racing, we know that it will take a total commitment and we are prepared to make that commitment.

Braun Racing announced that Jacques Villenueve will attempt to make the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the team's No. 32 Dollar General Toyota.

Braun Racing announced that Jacques Villenueve will attempt to make the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the team’s No. 32 Dollar General Toyota.

If Villenueve, a former Formula One World Champion, qualifies for the race, he will join Juan Pablo Montoya as the only drivers to compete in all three of the track’s premiere motorsports events: the Indy 500, the U.S. Grand Prix, and the Brickyard 400.

Villeneuve said:

I am very excited to join with Braun Racing and Dollar General at Indianapolis. We had a very exciting and solid race last month [in the Nationwide Series race] at [Road America]. I had hoped it would result in additional opportunities to drive for the organization. I have a lot of good memories at the Brickyard. Winning the Indy 500 was a very big highlight in my career. This will be my first venture in a stock car there, but I am confident that we will do well.

Braun’s No. 32 has made four starts this season with Reed Sorenson behind the wheel. Sorenson replaced Casey Mears in Red Bull Racing’s No. 83 earlier this season. In his four starts, Sorenson finished 32nd, 41st, 43rd, and 24th. He had mechanical issues or accidents in three out of four of those starts.

NASCAR has penalized the Braun Racing’s Nos. 10 and 38 for infractions at the Nationwide Series Federated Auto Parts 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. NASCAR said earlier that there was an unapproved transfer of tires during the race. That unapproved transfer appears to have been between Braun Racing’s Nos. 10 and 38.

The teams were found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); 20A-10.8.2E (teams will not be permitted to use tires or wheels from another team unless approved by the series director) and 20A-10.8.2L (identification numbers have been changed on previously approved tires) of the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rule Book.

Crew chiefs Stuart Cooper (No. 10) and Trip Bruce (No. 38) were suspended for the next two NASCAR Nationwide Series races, suspended from NASCAR until June 23rd, and placed on probation for the rest of the year. Tire specialists Sean Whisenhunt (No. 10) and Kevin Bellicourt (No. 38) received the same penalty.

Malsam and Leffler were each penalized with the loss of 25 Nationwide Series driver’s points. Car owners Todd Braun (No. 10) and Ralph Braun(No. 38) also lost 25 Nationwide Series owner’s points.

In a press release, Todd Braun said:

Though we feel the penalties levied against Braun Racing for infractions at Nashville Superspeedway against the #38 and #10 teams are harsh under the circumstances, we understand NASCAR’s need to be consistent in making sure teams adhere to the rule book in order to promote a level playing field. This situation is the result of miscommunication between team personnel and we will need to further evaluate the circumstances and work to improve our procedures to ensure this does not happen again.

Following the Nationwide series’ Carfax 250 from Michigan International Raceway, NASCAR put 10 cars on the chassis dyno to check horsepower.

According to SceneDaily, NASCAR checked Roush Fenway Racing’s Fords of Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle; Joe Gibbs Racing’s Toyotas of Tony Stewart and Joey Logano; Braun Racing’s Toyota of Brian Vickers; JR Motorsports’ Chevys of Brad Keselowski and Mark Martin; Richard Childress Racing’s Chevy of Clint Bowyer, Phoenix Racing’s Chevy of Mike Bliss; and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dodge of Dario Franchitti.

This test came following a Nationwide series rule change in which NASCAR changed the size of the spacer used to restrict airflow in the engines to limit horsepower.

SceneDaily is reporting that Joe Gibbs Racing will be penalized for attempting to manipulate the throttle so that the dyno testing results would not be accurate.

NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said:

What they did was not in effect during the race. They didn’t have an illegal part or engine during the race. They tried to do something involving a magnet so that we wouldn’t get a true reading on the dyno.

There will definitely be penalties coming.

For JGR’s part, spokesman Mike Arning said:

The parts and pieces that were on our cars [in the race] adhered to the rulebook. There was nothing out of the ordinary.
