Longtime Nationwide Series Owner Forms Cup Team

Long-time Nationwide Series team owner Jay Robinson has teamed up with Troy Blakeney to form Robinson-Blakeney Racing, which will field a Sprint Cup entry in 2012. Robinson owns Jay Robinson Racing, which fielded the No. 28 entry in the Nationwide Series last season with Derrike Cope and Dennis Setzer behind the wheel. The team also fielded the Nos. 48 and 49 in the series with a variety of drivers. The team also formed partnerships with several other N’Wide teams throughout the season, including R3 Motorsports.

Robinson said:

I am very excited about our new venture into the Cup series”, said team owner Jay Robinson” We have all of the cars and equipment in place. We will be running engines prepared by Race Engines Plus and are hoping to hire a driver very soon.

The team still plans to field the No. 28 N’wide car. Jeff Spraker and his Spraker Racing Enterprises group has been hired to head up that effort.

No word on sponsorship, driver, or crew chief.

Panel Hears Appeals Of Two N’Wide Teams Penalized At Kentucky

Earlier this week, the National Stock Car Racing Appeals Panel considered the appeal of penalties and fines issued to the No. 02 Corrie Stott Racing/Viva Motorsports Chevy driven by Jamie Dick and the No. 23 R3 Motorsports Chevy driven by Robert Richardson Jr in the Nationwide Series for rules violations found at Kentucky Speedway.

The No. 02 car was found to be in violation of of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-J (any determination by NASCAR officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20A-2.3A (improperly attached weight) of the NASCAR rule book. Crew chief and team owner Corrie Stott was fined $10,000 and placed on probation.

The No. 23 was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1; 12-4-J and 20A-5.9F (unapproved intake manifold). Crew chief Walter Giles was fined $5,000 and put on probation.

In the case of the No. 02 car, CSR acknowledged that the weight was improperly attached to the car. They were appealing the severity of the fine. The panel upheld the original penalty, but reduced the fine from $10,000 to $5,000.

In the case of the No. 23, R3M acknowledged that the manifold was legal in 2010, but was not in 2011. They, too, were contesting the severity of the fine. After reviewing the case, the panel upheld the fines.

Both teams can appeal to the National Stock Car Racing Chief Appellate Officer.

NASCAR Penalizes Two N’Wide Teams for Infractions At Kentucky

NASCAR has penalized the No. 02 Corrie Stott Racing/Viva Motorsports Chevy driven by Jamie Dick and the No. 23 R3 Motorsports Chevy driven by Robert Richardson Jr in the Nationwide Series for rules violations found at Kentucky Speedway.

Crew chief and team owner Corrie Stott has been fined $10,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Aug. 17.

The No. 23 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1; 12-4-J and 20A-5.9F (unapproved intake manifold). This violation was discovered during opening day inspection.

Crew chief Walter Giles has been fined $5,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Aug. 17 as a result of the infraction.

R3M Crew Member Suspended

NASCAR has indefinitely suspended Kenneth Luna, a crew member for R3 Motorsports’ No. 23 Nationwide team for violating the substance abuse policy, according to Jayski. Luna was a gas runner and second can man on race day.
