Roush Fenway Racing Close To A Deal With Pastrana

Frontstretch is reporting that Roush Fenway Racing is finalizing a deal to put X-Games star Travis Pastrana into one of its Fords in the Nationwide Series full time in 2013. The car will feature the No. 99.

Pastrana has already sold about half of the season in sponsorship, but rumor has it that RFR would run Pastrana regardless of sponsorship.

There has been no word on what companies are interested in sponsoring him, but Boost Mobile has sponsorship him in the Nationwide Series thus far. Red Bull has also sponsored him in other forms of motorsports.

Pastrana will join Trevor Bayne at RFR. Bayne will pilot an RFR Ford in the Nationwide Series as well.

Pastrana drove for RFR in the Richmond Nationwide Series race. He finished 17th.

Pastrana To Drive For RFR In Richmond N’Wide Race

X-Games and Rally Cross champion Travis Pastrana will drive Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 60 Nationwide Series entry in the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 at Richmond International Raceway.

Pastrana said:

Roush Fenway Racing has a strong background as the most successful team in the history of the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and I’m pleased to be driving for a legend like Jack Roush this weekend at Richmond.

Pastrana has made eight Nationwide Series starts with Pastrana Waltrip Racing, and made his debut at Richmond earlier this season. He was slated to make his debut in 2011, but those plans changed when he suffered injuries at the X-Games in July after crashing during an attempt to win the Best Trick event.

Pastrana has three top 20 finishes in his eight starts, with his best finish being 13th in the Indian 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

2012 Nationwide Schedule Highlighted By Trip To Indy

The NASCAR Nationwide series is gearing up to welcome newcomers to the series for 2012. Austin Dillon, grandson of the legendary Richard Childress, is moving to the Nationwide Series after two full seasons in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Danica Patrick made anticipated announcement in late August that she would be running the NNS in 2012 for JR Motorsports. The last newcomer so far for 2012 is one of the most versatile athletes in the world and charismatic personalities Travis Pastrana. Pastrana was supposed to make his debut at Lucas Oil Raceway Park at the end of July but an injury at the X-games is pushing it back until Phoenix in March 2012.

Even with all of these newcomers coming into the series there are still plenty of questions surrounding this series, which is struggling to find an identity. It was rumored the NNS would only see 30 races on it’s schedule for 2012, which would four fewer races than in 2011.

The series will host 33 races during the 2012 campaign. Only one race on the scheduled is an inaugural event, the July 28th race at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The addition of the Brickyard means the departure from Lucas Oil Raceway Park, which had hosted the Nationwide series since 1982.

The Nashville Superspeedway, which has hosted races on the NNS scheduled since it’s inaugural race in 2001, won’t be on the schedule for the 2012 season. It’s unfortunate because Nashville is one of three tracks on the schedule that is concrete and had allowed NNS drivers only to shine away from the Sprint Cup Series drivers.

Iowa Speedway will host the first standalone event for NNS drivers May 20 and follow it up with their second race on August 4. During the 2012 season only six races will be stand alone events for the NNS. In 2011, there were eight standalone events.

The NNS will follow the Sprint Cup Series schedule shift, Kansas Speedway’s date moves to October 20, which will accommodate the repaving of the track, which is scheduled for April 2012.

For the first time, Kentucky Speedway will host two NNS races, on July 29 and September 22.

Daytona International Speedway opens up the 33 race schedule on February 25, a week later than the season has opened in the past. 2012 marks the 30 anniversary of the NNS.

Pastrana Breaks Ankle, Foot; N’Wide Debut Postponed

Travis Pastrana’s Nationwide Series debut is in serious doubt after the X-Games-star-turned-NASCAR-driver failed to land a trick and broke his right foot and ankle. Pastrana suffered the injury during the Moto X Best Trick final.

Pastrana attempted to perform a trick called the “toilet paper roll,” which consists of rotating the bike 720 degrees while flipping, but he crashed on the landing.

At this point, it is unclear whether Pastrana will be able to compete in the Kroger 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway, the Moto X Freestyle or the upcoming Rally Car RallyCross event.

Following the crash, Pastrana tweeted:

I’m on my way to the hospital for x rays, something with my foot, I’ll keep everyone posted. Might be driving with my hands on Saturday.

Update: Pastrana Waltrip Racing has decided to postpone Travis Pastrana’s debut in the Nationwide Series following the X-Games star’s injury in the Moto X Trick event.

Like fans everywhere we were so excited about Travis’ debut Saturday night. We have a long term vision with Travis which includes lots of NASCAR. We can’t wait to get him healed and in our race cars. We talked to our sponsor Boost Mobile and agreed to withdraw from Indy and delay our debut. We’ve waited a long time for someone like Travis Pastrana. I guess we’ll just have to wait a little bit longer.

Pastrana To Make Nationwide Debut At Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Travis Pastrana will make his first Nationwide Series start at Indianpolis Motor Speedway in July. He will drive the No. 99 Boost Mobile Toyota for Pastrana-Waltrip Racing. Boost Mobile and Samsung Mobile will sponsor Pastrana for seven races in the 2011 N’wide Series. He plans to run 20 races in 2012.

CBSSports.com is reporting that motorcyclist and rally car driver Travis Pastrana is going to make the move from Rally America to NASCAR next season driving a Diamond-Waltrip Racing Toyota in the Nationwide Series.

Apparently, there was a photo leaked via Pastrana’s twitter account of him sitting next to his Nationwide Series car. That photo has since been taken down. was taken down before the official announcement came.

Pastrana’s publicist is said to have confirmed that an announcement would come Thursday.

Update: Michael Waltrip Racing announced that Travis Pastrana is coming to NASCAR in 2011. He will drive for the newly created Pastrana Waltrip Racing. The venture will work on creating programs that attract the action sports world’s fans and participants to NASCAR. PWR will also develop youth marketing initiatives designed to create greater awareness of both sports.

Pastrana is expected to drive seven races in 2011, and 20 in 2012.

Meanwhile, Subaru announced Wednesday that it has ended its relationship with Pastrana, according to ESPN. Pastrana drove a Subaru Impreza rally car. There is a chance that Pastrana races in the 2011 X Games in a Toyota.

Red Bull, which sponsors Pastrana, will continue to sponsor Pastrana personally, but will not appear as a primary sponsor on his NASCAR Camrys.
