Landon Cassill will drive for a yet-to-be-named race team in 2012. The team will field two cars; Brian Vickers and Travis Kvapil are said to be candidates for the second seat.

Landon Cassill will race at Daytona International Speedway, driving the No. 83 Toyota of a yet-to-be-named race team that was purchased from the former Red Bull Racing team.

According to Cassill, the team is planning to field two cars, full time this coming Cup season. Cassill said that Doug Richert will serve as crew chief of the No. 83 and Harry McMullin will serve as the team’s general manager.

Sources say that Ron Devine of TRG Motorsports, which fielded the No. 71 last season, is part of the ownership group. Devine and his Burger King franchises may sponsor the team.

The team will use the former Randy Moss Motorsports shop in Statesville, NC. Engines will come from Triad Racing Technology.

<del>No driver has been named to the second car, the No. 93, which will use the points from the No. 4 last season. Brian Vickers and Travis Kvapil have been linked to that car.</del>

Update: BK Racing announced that David Reutimann will drive the team’s No. 93 Toyota in the Daytona 500, with Todd Anderson, former car chief with TRG Motorsports, serving as crew chief. Travis Kvapil will take over driving duties of the car at Phoenix International Raceway. The car will use the 2011 points of Red Bull Racing’s No. 4.

Reutimann is signed to drive for Tommy Baldwin Racing in the No. 10. Reutimann will drive the No. 10 Chevy in events not entered by Danica Patrick. Patrick will drive the No. 10, which will be fielded by Stewart Haas Racing, in select Sprint Cup events.

Reutimann said:

I was definitely starting to think that I wasn’t going to get to run the Daytona 500, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Daytona is such a huge deal. Everyone says it pays the same amount of points and blah, blah, blah. But it’s my home track and I didn’t know how I was going to take sitting on the sidelines. That place is pretty special to me. I’m really excited about running that race.

Landon Cassill will pilot BK Racing’s No. 83.

Front Row Motorsports has signed David Ragan to drive the team's No. 34 Sprint Cup Ford. David Gilliland will drive the team's second Sprint Cup entry, the No. 38.

Front Row Motorsports has signed David Ragan to drive the team’s No. 34 Sprint Cup Ford. David Gilliland will drive the team’s second Sprint Cup entry, the No. 38.

Ragan had to move on from Roush Fenway Racing after UPS decided to move its sponsorship from Ragan’s No. 6 to Carl Edwards and the No. 99.

Ragan was linked to several rides, including TRG Motorsports’ No. 71 and Richard Petty Motorsports’ No. 43, which was vacated by AJ Allmendinger who left to join Penske Racing in the No. 22 that became open after Kurt Busch and Penske agreed to part ways. Busch joined Phoenix Racing.

TRG suspended operations, while RPM signed Aric Almirola to drive the No. 43. RFR will field the No. 6 in select races. Ricky Stenhouse Jr is slated to drive that car in the Daytona 500.

Ragan earned his first career Sprint Cup victory, winning the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. He was also in position to win the Daytona 500 when he made a mental mistake, changing lanes before crossing the start-finish line on a restart, which resulted in him being black flagged.

Jay Guy will serve as Ragan’s crew chief. Competition Director Derrick Finley will serve as interim crew chief for Gilliland until a permanent replacement can be found.

Both the Nos. 34 and 38 are locked into the first five races of the 2012 season because both cars finished in the top 35 in owner’s points.

UPS has announced that they will move from Roush Fenway Racing's No. 6 car and driver David Ragan to the team's No. 99 car, driven by Carl Edwards for 2012.

UPS has announced that they will move from Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 6 car and driver David Ragan to the team’s No. 99 car, driven by Carl Edwards for 2012. UPS will be an associate sponsor on Edwards’ car, and will serve as the primary sponsor for the Sprint Cup Series second race at Kentucky Speedway.

UPS has spent the last three seasons with Ragan. During their three year tenure, Ragan and UPS found victory lane only one time — this year’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. With UPS aboard, Ragan has only accumulated four Top 5′s, 13 Top 10′s, and a best finish of 24th in the championship standings, which came last season.

With the announcement, Ragan is left without a sponsor for 2012. Without a sponsor, Ragan’s seat at RFR could be in jeopardy. It has been rumored that Ragan was given permission by RFR to seek other options for 2012. He has been linked to TRG Motorsports’ No. 71 team.

Ragan isn’t the only RFR driver who doesn’t have a sponsor lined up for the 2012 season. Former Sprint Cup champion Matt Kenseth who currently sits second in points is also without a sponsor.

UPS has been a primary sponsor in the Cup series since 2001, when they teamed with former Cup champion Dale Jarrett. This season marks their last as a full-time primary sponsor in the sport.

David Ragan has been given permission to speak with other teams by Roush Fenway Racing. He could be headed to TRG's No. 71.

David Ragan has been given permission by Roush Fenway Racing owner Jack Roush to start looking for other offers because the sponsorship prospects for the No. 6 RFR Sprint Cup Series team do not look good. MikeMulhern.net is reporting that Ragan could be headed to the No. 71 TRG Motorsports Ford.

Mulhern quotes Ragan as saying:

Right now I am not focused on 2012 just yet. I think it’s important for us to finish this season strong. And the stronger we can finish 2011, that will only help our chances of finding a sponsor and a package to go racing next year. … All we can do – me and [crew chief] Drew Blickensderfer – is to keep running as strong as we can and get some good, positive TV time and things to talk about….and then it’s up to our sales team management to go sell some sponsors. The sooner they can get a few positive things announced for me and Matt [Kenseth], that would give us all a breath of fresh air.

Last month, RFR was told that UPS would scale back its sponsorship of the No. 6 Ford from full-season to about four to eight races. UPS expressed an interest in moving from the No. 6 car to the No. 99 car, and driver Carl Edwards.

At this point, however, this is just a rumor and should be treated as such.

Hermie Sadler will drive TRG Motorsports’ No. 71 Eco Fuel Saver Chevy in the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway. This will be his second start for TRG.

He said:

I had a lot of fun running for TRG Motorsports last fall at Martinsville. Kevin Buckler asked me if I would be willing to do it again, and I jumped at the chance. It’s always fun to get back behind the wheel and it’s an added bonus to do it at Martinsville Speedway, a track that is close to home. It means so much to me to be able to race at one of my favorite tracks in front of my hometown fans. I am truly appreciative of the opportunity.

In related news, TRG will switch to Fords beginning at Texas Motor Speedway. The team will use Fords supplied by Roush Fenway Racing with engines from Roush Yates Engines.

Team owner Kevin Buckler said:

We are excited to be partnering with Roush Fenway and getting some new equipment in the TRG Motorsports stable. It has been a long few years in figuring out our best options to succeed in NASCAR and we have a golden opportunity to really improve our performance with some shiny new equipment and some technical support. The Fords are on a roll right now and Roush Fenway does it right. A partnership with them and with Roush/Yates Engines will be an outstanding package for our team.

Previously, the team used Chevys provided by Richard Childress Racing and engines from Earnhardt Childress Racing.

TRG Motorsports announced that NASCAR veteran Jay Guy will serve as crew chief for the team’s No. 71 entry in the 2011 Sprint Cup Series season. Guy moves to TRG from Penske Racing, where he served as Cup crew chief for Brad Keselowski last season.

Team owner Kevin Buckler said:

Jay comes to us highly recommended. We’re very happy to have him on board. He’s got exactly the kind of experience we’ve been looking for to lead the team and guide [driver] Andy [Lally] through his rookie season. He’ll fit in well at TRG. He’s got the same kind of passion and desire to win that our team has from top to bottom.
