The car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-2.1-D (exterior sheet metal body parts did not meet the specified minimum thickness) of the rulebook.

Crew Chief Kevin Hamlin and Car Chief Chad Smokstad have been suspended indefinitely. Additionally, Hamlin has been fined $100,000.

Vickers and car owner Dietrich Mateschitz have each been penalized with the loss of 150 drive and owner points respectively.

The team does not plan to appeal and took full responsibility for the infractions.

That inspection revealed that the doors, fenders, and quarter panels did not meet NASCAR’s minimum requirements for thickness.

Shaving weight off of the body panels could reduce the weight of the car by up to 75 pounds. If that weight is added back to the bottom of the car in the form of lead weights, it could help the car turn in the corner.

Vickers and and car owner Dietrich Mateschitz are expected to incur heavy fines and points penalties, and crew chief Kevin Hamlin could be suspended.

Logano was slated to drive at the Bank of America 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, the TUMS QuikPak 500 from Martinsville Speedway, and the Dickies 500 from Texas Motor Speedway. Ken Schrader is expected to drive in the car in those races.

Logano posted finishes of 32nd and 39th in his two races in the No. 96, and JGR opted not to have him compete in the car.

It was announced earlier that Allmendinger would be leaving at the end of the season. Allmendinger expected to be released early.

Mike Skinner will assume driving duties at this week’s Amp Energy 500. He will also pilot the No. 84 at the Bank of America 500 from Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Scott Speed will drive the No. 82 for RBR at the Bank of America 500. After that, he will finish out the season in the No. 84, starting at the TUMS QuikPak 500 from Martinsville Speedway. He’s the likely candidate to be in the car next season, though, I’m not sure it has been announced.
