In 2013, Bayne will run another part-time Cup schedule with WBR, and a full-time Nationwide Series schedule with RFR.

The decision will be made in the next few weeks as to whether Trevor Bayne, who won the season-opening Daytona 500 in WBR’s legendary No. 21, will stay in the car or be replaced by current Nationwide Series points leader Stenhouse.

Team co-owner Len wood said:

As a precaution, Roush Fenway Racing and Wood Brothers Racing have decided to hold Trevor Bayne out of competition for another week. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the plan is to have Bayne return to the Nationwide Series at Chicagoloand Speedway in the STP 300.

Two weeks later, Bayne would return to the No. 21 Sprint Cup Ford in the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

RFR President Steve Newmark said:

By all standards Trevor had a great week. His symptoms have completely subsided. He tested at Virginia International Raceway on Tuesday, had one of the fastest Nationwide Series cars on the race track and his team was extremely pleased with his progress. As a result, we plan to have him back in competition next week in Chicago, and have consulted with his doctors at the Mayo Clinic and the NASCAR medical staff about that timetable. … Although Trevor would have preferred to compete in all 900 miles this weekend, he respects and understands our decision and will shift his considerable focus to his return at Chicagoland next weekend.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr, who won his first career Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway recently will fill in for Bayne in the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This will be Stenhouse’s Sprint Cup debut.

Stenhouse said:

Obviously its not the circumstances that you want to make your first Sprint Cup start. But you grow up dreaming about this moment and I am excited and grateful for the opportunity; to not only make my first start, but to be able to drive the No. 21 Ford of the Wood Brothers in one of the biggest races of the season. Trevor is a very good friend of mine and he’s going to be around this weekend and I know that his help with the transition will be instrumental. Hopefully we can give him an effort that will make him proud before we turn the car back over to him for the rest of the season.

Bayne has been suffering from an undisclosed illness that has resulted in blurred vision, pain, and nausea. He has missed several races due to this illness. He seems to be recovering, but RFR and WBR want to hold out until they feel that he is back to full strength.

Roush Fenway Racing and Wood Brothers Racing have decided to hold Trevor Bayne out of this weekend's NASCAR events to give him another week to get back to full strength.

Roush Fenway Racing and Wood Brothers Racing have decided to hold Trevor Bayne out of this weekend’s NASCAR events, including the John Deere Dealers 250 Nationwide Series race at Iowa Speedway and the Sprint All Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Roush Fenway president Steve Newmark said:

Although we would like for Trevor to be on the track this weekend, we want to make sure that he is fully back to prime condition before he goes out to compete with the best drivers in the world. He has been undergoing tests and out of his routine for almost a month now. With that disruption in his schedule, he has not been able to take part in our daily training activities and he’s going to need a little more time to get acclimated to the strenuous demands of a NASCAR racing schedule.

Bayne did test this weekend at Rockingham Speedway. He did not appear to be at full strength, and the decision was made to let him rest another week before letting him compete.

The No. 16 RFR Nationwide team is not entered in this weekend’s race, and the Wood Brothers have decided not to replace Bayne in the No. 21 car for the All Star Race, though they have that option.

Bayne has been suffering from an undisclosed illness that has resulted in blurred vision, pain, and nausea.
Roush Fenway driver Trevor Bayne still remains hospitalized due to symptoms thought to be related to an insect bite, and is likely to miss the Nationwide Series Royal Purple 200 at Darlington.

Roush Fenway Racing driver Trevor Bayne still remains hospitalized due to symptoms thought to be related to an insect bite.

Bayne was admitted to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota on April 27th for fatigue and nausea. Doctors do not have a final diagnosis, but they believe he will likely miss the Nationwide Series Royal Purple 200 at Darlington Raceway.

An official announcement is expected Thursday. RFR developmental driver Chris Buescher is likely to be his replacement.

Before the Bubba Burger 250 at Richmond, Bayne was fifth in the Nationwide points standings. Missing that race dropped him to seventh in the standings, 45 points behind leader Justin Allgaier. If he misses the Darlington race, this will all but eliminate his chances for the Nationwide title.

Bayne’s next scheduled cup race for Wood Brothers Racing is the All-Star race on May 21st at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Update: Roush Fenway Racing driver Trevor Bayne will be released from the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota Thursday and return to his home in North Carolina but is not expected to race this weekend at Darlington Raceway, according to SceneDaily.com.

Wood Brothers Racing announced that 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne will be sponsored by Good Sam Club for the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend and in the NASCAR Sprint All Star Race in May. Good Sam Club is the sister company to Camping World.

Bayne was not slated to run in the All Star race without sponsorship, so this deal ensure that he will participate.

Also, Bayne was admitted to the hospital earlier this week after returning home from the Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway. Bayne had a reaction from an apparent insect bite on his left elbow.

Roush Fenway Racing president Steve Newmark said:

Trevor has been treated and released from the hospital and is fine to continue with his daily activities – including driving a race car. … Doctors are still waiting for the test results to determine for sure what caused the reaction, but Trevor has been treated, is at home and he is doing fine.

Thanks to a new NASCAR mandate, it looks like there will be no Rookie of the Year in the Sprint Cup Series in 2011. Trevor Bayne, potentially the only Cup rookie, is not eligible.

Thanks to a new NASCAR mandate that drivers must specify the national series — Sprint Cup, Nationwide, or Camping World Truck – in which they would like to compete for the championship, there will be no 2011 Rookie of the Year, according to SceneDaily.com.

NASCAR will not allow a driver to compete for ROTY honors, if that driver has not declared that series as the one in which they will compete for the championship.

Trevor Bayne, who will run at least 17 races for Wood Brothers Racing, is competing for the Nationwide Series championship for Roush Fenway Racing in 2011. He was also potentially the only rookie in the Sprint Cup Series in 2011.

The limit a driver could run without losing the ability to compete for ROTY honors was seven. NASCAR is currently looking at that provision, and may change it.

Despite an earlier denial by Phoenix Racing owner James Finch, the team has announced that Bill Elliott will drive the team’s No. 09 Sprint Cup entry for a limited number of races beginning with the 2011 Daytona 500. At this point, the plan is to have Elliott behind the wheel for 18 Cup races depending on sponsorship.

Finch said:

It’s great to have NASCAR’s most popular driver ever in our car. We’ve been friends with him a long time and we’re happy to have him in the car.

The team will use equipment and engines from Hendrick Motorsports and Nick Harris will be atop the pitbox for Elliott.

Phoenix also plans to scale back its Nationwide Series efforts, instead focusing on it’s Cup team. The team plans to focus its N’Wide efforts on the restrictor plate races at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.

In December, Trevor Bayne was reported to be the driver for the Wood Brothers Racing No. 21 Sprint Cup Ford for the start of the Sprint Cup Series season. At that time, it was reported that Elliott would move to the No. 09 team.

That report was later denied by Finch and WBR.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Bayne would indeed make some starts for WBR in 2011. It is unclear whether or not Elliott will drive select races for WBR in addition to his commitment to Phoenix.

Bayne had been rumored to be slated to drive for WBR in Cup in 2011, with the team’s 2010 driver, Bill Elloitt, moving over to Phoenix Racing. But, that report was later denied by both PR owner James Finch and WBR.

Trevor Bayne will work with Wood Brothers Racing at the start of the 2011 Sprint Cup Series season. Bayne made one start for the team last season, finishing 17th at the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Bill Elliott, who competed for the team last season, will move over to Phoenix Racing’s No. 09 Chevy for the first five races of 2011, in hopes of helping the team get into the top 35 in owner’s points.

Update: Phoenix Racing owner James Finch said that he had no plans to put Bill Elliott in his No. 09 Sprint Cup entry next season, according to Jayski. He said that the first he heard anything about it was when he read about it last week.

Meanwhile, Wood Brothers Racing indicated that Elliott would be driving its No. 21 Ford next season in a limited schedule.
